Andrey Santos was one of the first signings for Chelsea during the winter transfer window. He joined the Blues from Vasco da Gama in his native Brazil for €12.5 million, and is showing exactly why he was signed in the U-20 South American Championships.
The midfielder has scored three goals in as many games with Brazil’s youth team, including a stunning solo goal. He is showing maturity beyond his years, and could be set for a first team opportunity with Chelsea upon his return.
Andrey Santos impressing for Brazil in U20 Championships
“Everyone knows it has always been a dream to represent my country,” Santos, who captains Brazil at the U20 level, explained in an interview.
“I have to enjoy every moment, every participation, and it’s clear how happy I am to be here, to be at Granja to represent Brazilian football.
“I got there [Chelsea], talked to them, and they made me feel at ease, accepted my decision, and wished me good luck. I’m sure they’re rooting for me, they’ve already sent me a message to keep it up. And I hope to continue like this to continue bearing fruit and happiness for Brazil and for Chelsea.”
The youngster has attracted a lot of praise for his non-stop playing ability. And he could become a very important player for the Blues if he is given an opportunity. Andrey Santos could be the answer to Chelsea’s creative problems from midfield, given his high frequency to play line breaking passes.
