Andres Iniesta has been linked with a move to the ISL two times now. Last summer, there was speculation that he could join Mohun Bagan SG in a shocking transfer. However, the Mariners were priced out of a transfer, owing to his huge salary demands.

This time around, Bengaluru FC were offered the chance to sign the legendary midfielder. But, they made their own inquiry and learnt that the Barcelona icon would continue in the Middle East. There was never any concrete chance of a move, and it was simply a general expression of interest.

Andres Iniesta was on Bengaluru FC’s radar this summer

Day 2

One Indian agent asked Bengaluru FC whether the club would be keen in signing Andres Iniesta. It was a general query and no terms were mentioned to sign the superstar. BFC made own inquiries and discovered that Iniesta would continue in Middle East. #TransferSecrets

While the prospect of seeing Iniesta in India would be alluring, it just isn’t feasible owing to the revenue generated from football in the country. The ISL has long moved on from its trend of signing European veterans in the final years of their careers, and is now finding talents from interesting pockets globally.

The World Cup winner was not the only European giant to be on the ISL’s radar this summer. Kerala Blasters were linked with a shocking transfer for Mario Balotelli as well.

However, the club decided against signing the Italian striker owing to his history of disciplinary issues. He remains a free agent, and is yet to find a new club for the coming season.

Which club is Iniesta playing for now?

Without a club after leaving Emirates this summer.
