Andreas Pereira is finally set to end his term with Manchester United by returning to Brazil permanently. The player will be joining Flamengo on a long-term transfer, as an agreement has been found between the two clubs.
The transfer fee for the move is expected to be around €10.5 million. Manchester United also have a 25% sell-on clause as part of the contract. The deal is expected to be confirmed within the upcoming days after the final details have been agreed on.
Manchester United sell Andreas Pereira to Flamengo
Pereira has been impressive for the most part of his loan deal with Flamengo. He has managed to revive his career to a great extent but was responsible for a key error in the Copa Libertadores final that allowed Palmeiras to win.
The midfielder joined Manchester United in 2011 and is one of the longest-serving players still on their books. A transfer away would be the best chance for Andreas Pereira to secure a spot for Brazil in the 2022 World Cup, which is why he is keen on staying at Flamengo and getting more game time.
The departure of the Brazilian will allow Manchester United to free up their books, and focus on other transfer targets. A defensive midfielder still remains one of the much-needed profiles. On the other hand, a forward will also be needed in the summer since Edinson Cavani’s contract expires.
