Jos Buttler had an incredible 2022 IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals. Opening for the first time, the explosive English batsman appeared to be at the top of his game, leaving bowling units completely bewildered when facing him. With four centuries, he ended up smashing 863 runs in one IPL season. Even though it appeared as though he would easily surpass the Indian Premier League record for most runs in a single season, he ultimately failed to do so.

It comes as no surprise that some of the most well-known players in cricket circles worldwide are among the players with the most runs scored in an IPL season. After all, the powerhouse that outlandish batting performances offered was what allowed the IPL to become rich and thrive as a brand.

Here is the List of  the Top 5 Players with highest runs in single season-

Top 5 Players with highest runs in single season

1.Virat Kohli, IPL 2016

 Runs: 973

The record for most runs scored in an IPL season is held by Virat Kohli, the former captain of the Indian side. When he finally went into “King Kohli” mode in 2016, he was virtually unstoppable. In 16 IPL matches in 2016, he amassed 973 runs, a record that stands to this day.

In fact, it appears that breaking Kohli’s record is among the hardest in IPL cricket. That season, he amassed a record-breaking four centuries before Jos Buttler finally tied him in 2022.

He had a strike rate of 152.03 and scored runs at an astounding average of 81.08. Throughout the season, the 33-year-old also amassed seven half-hundreds, and several of his 2016 centuries are considered to be among the finest knocks in IPL history.
To Kohli’s dismay, though, his club, Royal Challengers Bangalore, lost the title that season despite possibly the best individual season by a batter in IPL history.

2. Shubman Gill, IPL 2023,

Runs: 890

Shubman Gill became the second Indian player and the fourth player overall to reach the 800-run milestone during the 2023 IPL season. Against the Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 encounter, he achieved this achievement. Gill became the second Indian, after Kohli, to register three or more hundreds in a single IPL season when he recorded his third IPL century of the year.

In addition, Gill eclipsed Jos Buttler’s 2022 run total of 863 runs to rank second only to Kohli in the IPL 2023 final against Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad. Gill finished with 890 runs for the season, despite being out of the game for 39 runs in the championship.

3. Jos Buttler: IPL 2022,

Runs: 863

Jos Buttler’s string of incredible performances with the Rajasthan Royals this season made him the talk of the town. His 863 runs in 17 matches in 2022 put him high on the list of all-time scorers in a single season.

Like Kohli, Buttler finished the tournament in outstanding form, tying his record for most hundreds in a single season with four hundred runs. There are more parallels between Kohli and yourself.

Even though Buttler was a standout player in the 2022 Indian Premier League, amassing runs at a 57.53 average and a 149.05 strike rate, he also had to deal with disappointment after his team fell to the Gujarat Titans in the championship game and was not able to win the trophy.

4. David Warner, IPL 2016

Runs: 848

David Warner, a player with the Delhi Capitals and a former captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, is perhaps the best foreign batter to play in the Indian Premier League. Being one of the league’s most successful batsmen, he has won the prized Orange Cap a record three times.
2016 was his most fruitful season in the Indian Premier League. Warner would have won another Orange Cap and finished first on the scoring lists in 2016 if not for Kohli’s historic season.

That season, he hit nine half-centuries, the most in a single season in league history, and finished with 848 runs scored. Warner did not make a century that season, in contrast to Buttler and Kohli, but he did have an amazing strike rate of 151.42 and an average of 60.57.
Warner won the league that season after assisting Sunrisers Hyderabad in defeating Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore in the championship game, again in contrast to Kohli and Buttler.

5. Kane Williamson, IPL 2018

Runs: 735

Sunrisers Throughout the 2018 IPL, Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson produced amazing cricket. After Warner was suspended for an extended amount of time from international cricket due to the Sandpaper incident, the Kiwi skipper took the team on his shoulders and led them to the championship.

Throughout the season, Williamson appeared in 17 games, scoring 735 runs with a career-high score of 84. In addition, he amassed an incredible eight half-centuries and won the Orange Cap with ease that season. That season, Williamson batted at a fantastic strike rate of over 142 despite being thought of as an anchor batter.
