AMD has started sending out versions of its Ryzen mobile range, which will be powered by the latest Zen 5 architecture. The new lineup includes models, like Strix Point and Fire Range. These prototypes, first spotted by @Harukaze5719 consist of four variants. Two for Fire Range CPUs and two for Strix Point APUs each with its unique Operational Part Number (OPN) IDs.

The Upcoming AMD Zen 5 Ryzen Mobility CPUs

The Fire Range and Strix Point series will both make use of the Zen 5 core architecture. The Fire Range is aimed at the high-end market while the Strix Point targets mainstream notebook users. Detailed OPN codes provide information on the core configurations and thermal design power (TDP) profiles of these processors.

In addition, @Momomo_US has revealed two EPYC Turin “Breithorn” SKUs on nbd.ltd giving us a glimpse into AMD server processor plans. Looking into the Strix Point SKUs shows that although specific details are not yet known, both APUs have a TDP of 28W and are identified as Strix Point (1) suggesting a unified packaging approach. Interestingly, there is also an end chiplet-based option internally named Strix Point (2).

The upcoming AMD Strix Point (1) APUs, which will be using the Zen 5 architecture are anticipated to have a maximum of 8 cores and 16 threads as, up to 12 compute units utilizing the latest RDNA 3+ graphics architecture. These new APUs are set to bring in an AI NPU that promises better computing power than the previous models.

Transitioning to the AMD Fire Range lineup, these chips represent the apex of mobility offerings and are slated to supersede the existing Dragon Range lineup. Utilizing desktop-grade chiplet dies, the Fire Range chips will incorporate a mix of Non-3D and 3D V-Cache options, all based on the Zen 5 architecture. Two SKUs have been identified: a 16-core (Ryzen 9) and an 8-core (Ryzen 7) variant, both with a 55W TDP.

AMD plans to introduce Strix Point APUs for laptops initially, with shipments expected to commence later this year and retail availability slated for early 2025. Meanwhile, Fire Range Mobility SKUs are scheduled to hit shelves by the second half of 2025, following their announcement at CES 2025.

An indicative roadmap outlined by analyst firm Canalys suggests the arrival of Strix Point APUs by mid-2024, followed by the Kraken Point lineup (a Strix Point refresh) in the first half of 2025. These projections align with existing rumors and leaks, indicating a competitive landscape in the mobile segment as AMD, Intel, Qualcomm, and Apple gear up to introduce new chips catering to mobility and PC markets.
