AMD’s new Radeon PRO W6000 Series Workstation Graphics is cost-effective yet powerful

We had been waiting for AMD’s RDNA 2 based professional GPUs, and it’s here finally, and as you expect at the price offering and performance, destroys the competition entirely. However, AMD was kind enough to share their presentation that clearly shows why these new Radeon PRO W6000 Series Workstation GPUs are a more feasible solution.

As you know, the AMD Radeon PRO W6800 workstation graphics card brings the ultimate performance and reliability to professionals that handle extra-large projects, extreme graphic workloads and large hardware-accelerated raytracing projects.

It sets a new standard in professional graphics with the array of next-generation architectural features, including 60 enhanced compute units supporting hardware-accelerated raytracing and a gigantic 32GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory with ECC support.

The graphics card also features 128MB of AMD Infinity Cache that delivers high-bandwidth performance at low power and low latency and AMD Smart Access Memory that delivers even higher performance levels for systems equipped with select AMD Ryzen™ Desktop Processors.

Whereas the AMD Radeon PRO W6600 workstation graphics card is an entry-level GPU for professional work. As AMD states, it delivers an optimal price-to-performance benefit for mainstream workloads, including CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) applications and interactive rendering and visualization, product and automotive design, 3D modelling and animation, and more.

The Radeon PRO W6800 with flagship specs just costs $2249, while the more affordable Radeon PRO W6600 GPU costs $649. Although both of them are equipped with the latest RDNA 2 based graphics processors, the W6800 provides up to 17.83 TFLOPS of GPU performance, whereas the W6600 gives up to 10.40 TFLOPS.

Compared with the last-gen AMD Radeon PRO VII GPU, you have 100% more RAM and 36% more peak FP32 performance than Radeon PRO W6800, and you have to pay just 18% more the price.

Now, when compared to the NVIDIA GPUs, AMD has an edge over its unique pricing as well as the price-to-performance ratio. The AMD Radeon PRO W6800 graphics card consumes only 250W TDP, and when compared to the popular Quadro RTX 5000 that costs $2600 consists of half the GDDR6 memory and delivers just 11.2 TFLOPS.

Compared to a costlier NVIDIA RTX A6000 GPU that comes with 48GB GDDR6 memory and 38.7 TFLOPS of GPU performance and features just 4 display ports. Even if you combine two Radeon PRO W6800 GPUs, which will cost you $4,500, it will deliver double the performance at the same price, theoretically 64GB GDDR6 memory but slightly less peak GPU performance at 35.66 TFLOPS.

The AMD Radeon PRO W6600M GPU features 1792 stream processors and up to 10.4 TFLOPS FP32 GPU performance, same as the full-flat Radeon PRO W6600. It provides mobile users with professional software application support in the office, on the go or wherever reliable, dedicated, and high-performance GPU processing is required.
