AMD’s FSR 2.0 arrives today with Deathloop as its first game

While AMD made its announcement of launching a newer version of its already famous Fidelity FX Super Solution commonly termed FSR, everyone was waiting to actually experience it in real. This new FSR 2.0 just makes the upscaling even better while still maintaining broad hardware support.

It employs cutting-edge temporal techniques, as well as high-quality anti-aliasing, to restore fine geometric and textural detail in the upscaled image.

AMD still says that it doesn’t use Machine Learning (ML) in its upscaling algorithm and therefore doesn’t require any kind of dedicated ML hardware in supported products. How? Well, you can read their blog for more details, however, because of this more platforms can benefit, and more gamers will be able to experience FSR 2.0.

As a matter of fact, the first game to support at the launch of the new FSR 2.0 is none other than Deathloop and we were able to test it out before launch for a brief amount of time. While I tested out in 1080p the frame rates were quite good for me even the normal FSR 1.0 was doing good for me.

While with RX 6700 XT I was getting 110 FPS in Ultra, 133 FPS at Very High and 161 FPS at High, if you get this kind of performance you will barely need the use of FSR. However, at 4K or 1440p if you have a low-end Radeon GPU you will experience a solid upscale with FSR 2.0, so when I used FSR 1.0 to upscale my game I was getting around 166 FPS at Quality preset and Ultra settings.

Now, with the same FSR 2.0, I was getting 168 FPS, not a major change in terms of FPS but there is a significant, the quality, and image sharpening is much better with the new FSR 2.0 but this is just one and I played for a brief time. We will have to wait for a broader test for an extensive period to compare the change with the previous FSR 1.0, still this feels much more refined than the first gen.
