AMD Zen 5 Threadripper ‘Shimada Peak’ CPUs Leaked: 96-Core and 16-Core Variants Spotted

While AMD has already rolled out the Zen 5 architecture in its Granite Ridge Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs, Strix Point mobile processors, and EPYC chips, the Threadripper and Threadripper Pro series are still waiting for an official unveiling. Details on these forthcoming CPUs are relatively scarce outside of them being expected to use the SP6 socket with a release still in flux.

This is the second time, since the leak of October based on the Zen 5, Threadripper or “Shimada Peak” lineup has been spotted. August’s initial tip-off featured a 96-core Threadripper 9000 CPU as the flagship, and now this new manifest cements both that beastly model and its 16-core brother. Although the “Shimada Peak” moniker was absent, that information is consistent with anticipated specs for this lineup.

The 96-core chip has purportedly 12 CCDs paired with each having 32 MB of L3 cache — bringing the total to 384MB. With a TDP of 350W, the processor supports up to 128 PCIe lanes and works with the TRX50 and WRX90 chipsets. Likewise, the 16-core CPU uses a 16-core/32-thread chip layout including two separate 8-core dies (CCDs). This series could also benefit from AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology as well, providing higher performance in data-heavy workloads.

More SKUs such as 24-core, 32-core, and even 64-core between the entry-level and flagship processors will fill in the gaps but no concrete information on such chips has been disclosed yet. Both Threadripper 9000 and Threadripper Pro 9000 series are said to arrive in 2025, based on the same chipsets. The precise release date isn’t confirmed, though. With leaks steadily trickling in, AMD’s next-generation Threadripper lineup is shaping up to be a significant leap in performance, particularly for professionals and creators.
