After AMD’s FSR 3 made its debut in September, the latest addition to the FidelityFX suite has now been released with its complete source code, accessible on GPUOpen. This newest iteration, featured in the v3.0.3 release, offers several key components:
- Presently delivered as a distinct branch of AMD FidelityFX SDK 1.0.
- API documentation, inclusive of a quick start checklist.
- A strong recommendation to consult the checklist for optimal upscaling quality assurance.
- Comprehensive C++ and HLSL source code provided through a library.
- FSR 3 DirectX 12 sample.
- The package encompasses sources for all FidelityFX SDK 1.0 samples, with only the FSR 3 executable pre-built.
The FSR 3 Source Code from AMD
Moreover, the latest version of AMD’s FSR 3 introduces additional enhancements to image quality and expands support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) monitors within the frame pacing logic. AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 encompasses both upscaling and frame generation, rendering FSR 2 obsolete. Developers can seamlessly integrate FSR 3 to enjoy the benefits of both upscaling and frame generation. The frame generation feature is optional and can be disabled for scenarios where only upscaling is desired, reverting to behavior equivalent to FSR 2. For a smoother upgrade path:
- Replace FSR 2 in games that already support it with FSR 3.
- Integrate FSR 3 directly into games that do not yet support FSR 2.
- The default FSR 3 API behavior mandates the selection of an FSR 3 quality mode for frame generation.
Additionally, the update facilitates DLL integration for FSR 3 using the AMD FidelityFX SDK DLL, enhancing debugging and ensuring future API compatibility. AMD recommends enabling hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) in Windows OS for optimal results with FSR 3 frame generation. Currently, the technology is compatible with AMD’s RDNA 3 GPUs, including the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, Radeon RX 7900 XT, Radeon RX 7800 XT, and Radeon RX 7700 XT.
FSR 3 is already featured in AAA titles such as Forspoken, Immortals of Aveum, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. AMD plans to expand the list of supported FSR games, citing titles like Black Myth Wukong, Crimson Desert, Cyberpunk 2077, EVE Online, Farming Simulator 22, Frostpunk 2, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, Pax Dei, Squad, Starfield, Starship Troopers Extermination, Warhammer 40K Darktide, Warhammer 40K Space Marine, Warhammer 40K Realms of Ruin, and ADERS.
With the availability of the source code, developers gain increased resources for the seamless integration of FSR 3 technology into both existing and upcoming AAA titles. The anticipation is high for upcoming game releases that will incorporate support for FSR 3.
