Huawei MateBook 13 with AMD Ryzen 5 3500U launched in the UK at £699

The semiconductor giant AMD has been in the market for years now but hasn’t been able to diversify its market except its CPUs and GPUs which Intel did to make itself a giant apart from selling its chips. So, as the market is changing and the internet is playing huge role getting better Wi-Fi speeds has become the priority for most customers out there.

So, as per the new norm, people are switching to the faster and reliable Wi-Fi 6 but using it requires an 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 NIC controller. This Wi-Fi 6 market has been dominated by Intel or Realtek as its wireless NICs are the most used inside notebooks even if it’s powered by an AMD processor, however, due to their costs and exclusiveness, AMD has lost a lot of clients who require far more superior Wi-Fi speeds.

Even the motherboard makers opt for Intel in this matter even if it’s for an AMD CPU, so, AMD had to come with some sort of solution quickly and that’s why they have partnered with another chip giant MediaTek. They have a lot of experience having a large portfolio of its chips powering Wi-Fi 6 routers and even TVs or smartphones as well.

Intel’s own brand NICs even comes with vPro feature-set that offers end-to-end management solution, securing the network whilst providing faster speeds for professional customers. AMD has gone a lot ahead in terms of performance with its Ryzen PRO lineup, however, there are few tweaks that it still has to make that includes developing its own custom Wi-Fi chip.

So, AMD will incorporate WLAN controllers of its own and integrate into their wide range of hardware that will not only be used in the upcoming notebooks but also can be used by motherboard vendors. So, to help speed up this process, AMD will be using MediaTek’s experience to solve the toughest part – the web of IP to make standalone WLAN controllers. This makes sense as AMD wants to provide AMD WLAN controllers could build on existing MediaTek IP blocks.
