AMD’s next-generation processors may be closer than we thought: AMD has announced that at CES 2022, it will begin sharing details on its 5nm “Zen 4” Ryzen chips. In an interview with Forbes contributor Anthony Leather, AMD chief technology officer Mark Papermaster teased its inclusion in the chipmaker’s presentation.
“We’re excited to be revealing some additional details on our new product launches that will deliver phenomenal experiences, and as we’ve said, later in the year as it progresses we’ll share more detail on Zen 4, with some mentioned at CES and more announcements on it throughout 2022,” Papermaster said in the interview. “It will be a very exciting year for AMD.”
AMD’s CES presentation is set on January 4, 2022, at 10 a.m. EST, during which CEO Lisa Su will showcase the company’s notebook-class Ryzen 6000-series processors, AMD Radeon graphics, and Ryzen 3D V-Cache technology. But we won’t know for sure until the announcements are made live on stage. Based on Papermaster’s assertions, any mention of Zen 4 appears to be a tease for a 2022 marketing effort leading up to a launch later that year.
On AMD’s artist-themed roadmap, Zen 4 is known as “Raphael” and is said to deliver superior thermal and power management, as well as a total of 16 cores. The desktop CPUs will also feature a redesigned design with a thicker integrated heat spreader than the current Zen 3 processors.
In November, AMD unveiled the Zen 4 EPYC CPU roadmap, which includes a 96-core “Genoa” model and a 128-core Bergamo processor.
