The RDNA 2 graphics core architecture will be used in AMD next-generation Ryzen 7000 ‘Raphael’ CPUs. This is a significant development for the desktop lineup, as integrated GPUs were previously unavailable for Ryzen CPUs, except APUs.
The forthcoming AMD Raphel iGPU design could use two Workgroup Processors, allowing the integrated GPU to have four RDNA 2 Compute Units, according to Twitter insider KOMACHI ENSAKA.
This data comes from AMD’s own System Management Unit, or SMU, recently revealed as a driver. With this additional information, it appears that the 1.1 GHz base clock would be used with those exact cores, implying that we’d be looking at a low-power GPU with 0.5 TFLOPs of single-precision computation capacity. This is the same as the Valve Stream Deck’s maximum graphics performance. Valve’s onboard APU has a total of 8 Compute Units (RDNA2) and is factory clocked at 1.1 to 1.6 GHz, resulting in 1.6 TFLOPs.
According to VideoCardz, the Raphael series GPU performance isn’t necessary to be high. According to the tech outlet, we’ve previously seen 256 Stream Processors capable of high-quality performance. The primary function of desktop CPU graphics subsystems is to act as a display engine, and premium graphics performance is significant for slim laptops that lack discrete GPU options. AMD’s plans to change the Raphael-S (desktop) and Raphael-H (mobile) GPU architectures are unknown.
The AMD Zen 4 Raphael chipset will be used in mobile and desktop applications. According to reports, AMD plans to use up to 16 cores in the mobile variant, double as the newly-released Ryzen 6000 series based on the Zen3 Rembrandt architecture.
AMD has announced that the Zen 4 architecture would be featured in the Ryzen 7000 series, necessitating the creation of a new platform. AMD’s Zen4 processors will support desktop DDR5 memory and use the latest PCIe Gen 5 connections. The AM5 socket, commonly known as LGA 1718, will be used by the Zen 4 processors. AMD promised that the new chips would be compatible with current AM4 coolers on the market.
