AMD set to launch its Radeon RX 6950 XT, RX 6750 XT, RX 6650 XT RDNA 2 Refresh Graphics Cards on 20th April

The RX 6950 XT, RX 6750 XT, and RX 6650 XT are part of AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 ‘RDNA 2 Refresh’ graphics card portfolio, which will be available on April 20th. There are multiple rumours that the new cards will include midnight black edition reference versions, though their availability has not been confirmed.

The Radeon RX 6800 XT was the first Radeon RX 6800 XT to feature AMD’s Midnight Black edition graphics card, and the luxury design has many gamers requesting more variants with the same design. Now it’s rumoured by Greymon55 that the cards will be getting a midnight black edition reference design but the availability of such cards in the retail segment is still dubious. It’s expected that a limited release will be planned for the initial launch, with AMD focusing on specialised models from its AIB partners.

For the future Radeon RX 6X50 XT series, the AMD Navi 21, Navi 22, and Navi 33 GPUs will be upgraded. On the desktop platform, the AMD Navi 21 GPU powers the Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT, and RX 6800, while the Navi 22 GPU powers the RX 6700 XT and the Navi 23 GPU powers the RX 6600 XT & 6600. The graphics cards will have 18 Gbps RAM as well as some clock improvements.

According to the earlier speculation, these cards would also include 18 Gbps GDDR6 memory dies. Currently, all cards include 16 Gbps memory dies, except the future RX 6500 XT and the top RX 6900 XT LC. Although the increase to 18 Gbps may provide more bandwidth and improve performance by 2-5 per cent, it does not show a significant difference with the updated series. Since we’ve heard rumours of the RX 6950 XT clocking over 2.5 GHz, there will undoubtedly be some process improvements with the next RDNA 2 refresh GPUs.

It might have been worthwhile if AMD had given its existing desktop GPUs the 6nm treatment and managed to squeeze out additional performance efficiency, but that isn’t happening. This soft refresh appears to be a very quiet update that will only be available through AIB cards.

There would also be a tiny price difference, and the TGP numbers are projected to increase significantly as faster memory chips are added. These GPUs will most likely compete with Intel’s upcoming high-end ARC Alchemist GPUs, while the Radeon RX 6950 XT flagship is geared at NVIDIA’s upcoming RTX 3090 Ti graphics card, which is currently anticipated to appear by the end of March.
