AMD Ryzen PRO 5000 series mobile processors launched

It seems no stopping for AMD as today the Silicon giant has announced its new Ryzen PRO 5000 series mobile processors after the grand launch of the new AMD EPYCâ„¢ 7003 series CPUs yesterday. These new PRO processors are made for businesses and commercial laptops which need an extra layer of security for professional use.

Based on the new AMD Zen 3 architecture, these new AMD Ryzen PRO 5000 series mobile processors provide enhanced performance over the incredibly popular Ryzen PRO 4000 series processors of last-gen. Already a lot of OEMs and manufacturers adopted the PRO series CPUs for their laptops and this time AMD has managed to bag more manufacturers with AMD Ryzen PRO 5000.

Already we know AMD has achieved a significant 19% IPC uplift with the new Zen 3 architecture and so the new AMD Ryzen PRO 5000 series mobile processors also take advantage of that.

As you see the architectural changes in-between AMD’s Zen 2 and Zen 3 architecture – there’s 2 times the L3 cache used which can now be accessed directly by per core, which in turn helps to increase the throughput.

Specifcations

There will be a lesser number of Ryzen PRO series mobile processors than last-gen as AMD has kept it simple this time with three CPUs with Zen 3 architecture:

  • AMD Ryzen 3 PRO 5450U – 4 cores and 8 threads, 2.6 GHz base & 4.0 GHz boost frequencies, 10MB L2+L3 cache, 15W TDP
  • AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 5650U – 6 cores and 12 threads, 2.3 GHz base & 4.2 GHz boost frequencies, 19MB L2+L3 cache, 15W TDP
  • AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U – 8 cores and 16 threads, 1.9 GHz base & 4.4 GHz boost frequencies, 20MB L2+L3 cache, 15W TDP

This makes sense as AMD has launched only three Zen 3 based Ryzen 5000U series processors and those three SMT enabled APUs are being used for Ryzen PRO 5000 series. As you see in the specs, the PRO ones are the look-alikes of the normal consumer Ryzen 5000U series processors but with added features for professional usage.
