AMD has taken the performance crown from Intel in the desktop CPU segment, and it seems that AMD is getting serious about establishing itself in the laptop segment. The latest upcoming Ryzen Pro series AMD is its direct ticket into the laptop performance segment.

If we follow last year’s model, notebooks like HP EliteBooks and Lenovo ThinkPads that used the AMD Ryzen Pro 4000 CPUs like the octa-core AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 4750U saw great success in the sales. According to sources, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s with AMD chip was one of the highest-rated business laptops of 2020.

Following the success of its processors in the market last year, AMD is planning to release the Ryzen Pro 5000 to give Intel a run for its money in the laptop CPU segment.

HP and Lenovo have already announced their 2021 EliteBooks and ThinkPads that will contain the Ryzen Pro 5000 CPUs, but the red team has still not announced the upcoming CPUs yet.

Both the AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U and the AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 5650U have appeared through a benchmark leak. The latter’s specs can now be found in a newly released spec sheet for the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 2 AMD.

However, new sources have reported turbo-boost clock rates of 4.2 GHz for the Ryzen 5 and 4.4 GHz for the Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U. The new base-clock values are at 2.2 (R5) and 2 GHz (R7). The Ryzen 5 Pro 5650U will be a six-core chip (12 threads), while the Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U will have eight cores (16 threads).

It is expected that AMD will make the official announcement of its new Ryzen Pro 5000 CPUs in the coming months, as the Lenovo models containing them are expected to be unveiled in May.
