AMD has launched its fastest AI system-on-chip (SoC) ever, with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 “Strix” APU offering up to a claimed NPU performance of 55 TOPS. This new addition is in the Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” series which will be launched later this week as well. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 comes with very few specs but offers significantly better capabilities around AI than the Ryzen Alchemy series which has a similar set of features.
More About the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 Strix APU
On the other hand, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 “Strix” APU will feature a total of 12 cores consisting (4 Zen 5 and 8 Zen 5C) with 16 threads along with 24MB L3 cache and 12MB L2 cache. It has a base clock of 2.00 GHz and boosts up to the peaks at 5.10 GHz. The chip has a default TDP of 28W but can be adjusted between 15 to 54W.
The APU comes equipped with the AMD Radeon 890M iGPU for graphics handling, boasting 16 compute units clocked at around up to 2900 MHz. A 3.0 GHz iGPU variant would have been nice, but that may require waiting for the Strix Halo for increased clock speeds, or adjusting settings manually as tuning is supported across both CPU and GPU regions
On the AI side of things, AMD’s new Ryzen “Strix” APU packs an XDNA 2 “Ryzen AI” engine that has been beefed up to deliver 55 TOPs. That’s 10% faster than the standard Strix chips that top out at 50 TOPS, also a tad faster than Intel Lunar Lake (48 TOPS NPU), and quite some performance lead over Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite (45 tops NPU). Although the Strix APU leads in NPU performance, Intel remains ahead in total platform TOPS.
With the Ryzen AI 9 HX 375, AMD reinforces its position as a leader in AI PC technology. HP has already incorporated this APU into its latest OmniBook Ultra, with more high-end laptop designs expected to follow.
