AMD‘s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point” APU, the first benchmarks are in and we are looking at some huge performance gains with Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 cores.
More About the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU
The first unofficial benchmarks for AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 APUs have started to surface, boasting impressive performance numbers on their initial outing. This appears to be the first AI branding for AMD, and the specifications imply that some big changes are incoming from AMD. The chip that is showcased is the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. Featuring a 12-core, 24-thread with 4 Zen 5 and 8 Zen 5C Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU, part of the Ryzen AI 300 “Strix Point” line. The iGPU here is a Radeon 890M with 1024 cores or 16 compute units, and clocks in at 5.1 GHz with 36 MB of cache, showing significant gains over its predecessor.
The leaked Geekbench results show that the Zen 5 cores have some good CPU performance, especially considering that they are an early sample. With 1847 points single-core, 14,316 points multi-core on Geekbench 5.4.5 and 2544 points single-core, 14,158 points multi-core on Geekbench 6.3.0. These scores not only more than double the horsepower derived from the main CPU but, most notably, show a huge architectural improvement on the new APU side as well.
Furthermore, the RDNA 3.5 iGPU produced an OpenCL test score of 41,995 points, demonstrating an amazing integrated graphics performance as well. Compared to the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS APU, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point” APU exhibits a 7% lead in single-core, 20% lead in multi-core, and a significant 40% gain in the graphics test, rivaling the RTX 2050 discrete GPU.
Notably, the new Ryzen AI 300 series eliminates set TDPs, allowing manufacturers to determine the TDP targets, which can range from 15W to 54W. This flexibility may impact benchmark results, with default TDPs ranging from 28W for the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 to 45W for the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS. AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 CPUs are set to be available from July 2024 through various OEM partners, with improved availability expected during the holiday 2024 season or Q4.
