AMD Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” Laptops Launched

AMD has finally taken the wraps off its first Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” APU-powered laptops, combining Zen 5 CPUs with RDNA 3.5 GPUs and XDNA2 NPU cores. The AI PC market is a fast-growing one, as companies are competing with each other to have the top hand in this field. And that also set up for two new chips: The first due in 2023 was AMD’s Phoenix APU family, which introduced an “AI PC” SOC and the next-gen of NPU performance with a Hawk Point line.

The All New AMD Ryzen AI 300 Strix Laptops

With the advent of Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC platform, AMD stepped up with the Ryzen AI 300 ‘Strix’ designed to address consumer demand for next-generation AI experiences on PCs. Specifically, AMD wants to improve AI performance and drive advanced GenAI and Copilot+ experiences natively on the PC.

Third-gen AI PC APUs AMD will launch its Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” APUs These devices will adopt the new chips naming crafted in the same way as Ryzen 7040 (Phoenix) and Ryzen 8040 (Hawk) lineups. The Ryzen AI 300 series does away with fixed TDPs, giving OEMs the power to choose their preferred wattages anywhere between 15W and up to 54W for an HX model which stands for high performance while non-HX models are focused on efficiency.

The Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” APUs feature

• Zen 5 (CPU Cores): The new architecture will also appear in Ryzen 9000 “Granite Ridge” Desktop CPUs and 5th Gen EPYC “Turin” CPUs.
• RDNA 3.5 (GPU Cores): This updated GPU architecture includes 16 compute units and enhancements for better performance and power efficiency.
• XDNA 2 (NPU Cores): Offering up to 55 TOPS, this NPU surpasses those in Snapdragon X and Intel Lunar Lake platforms.

The Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” lineup includes two main SKUs

• Ryzen AI 9 HX 370: A 12-core, 24-thread chip with a boost clock of up to 5.1 GHz, 36 MB cache, and Radeon 890M iGPU with 16 compute units.
• Ryzen AI 9 365: A 10-core, 20-thread model with a boost clock of up to 5.0 GHz, 34 MB cache, and Radeon 880M iGPU with 12 compute units.
