Gaming laptops will now have access to AMD’s 3D V-Cache, which powers some of the company’s greatest CPUs. The Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, which will debut on August 22 in the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D gaming laptop, was unveiled by the firm at ChinaJoy in Shanghai.

The processor on the chip has 16 cores and 32 threads, and its boost frequency can reach 5.4 GHz. It has a TDP of at least 55W and 144MB of cache, however, AMD claims it can go higher. The Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor, like the rest of the Dragon Range HX-series range, is a desktop PC’s typical CPU that has been squeezed into a laptop case.

For those who haven’t been paying attention to the X3D desktop processors, the laptop one will function similarly. AMD uses 64MB of L3 cache on the CCD to limit requests to system memory, saving crucial milliseconds and allowing AMD to maintain high framerates by lowering the time it takes to finish instructions.

According to the business, V-Cache is much more astonishing in a power-limited mobile device than it is on a desktop PC with unlimited power. AMD claims that with a lower TDP, you could gain more than twice the benefit in certain games.

AMD estimates that compared to the current flagship Ryzen 9 7945HX that we tested in the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16, you’ll enjoy more than a 15% improvement in gaming performance. Several games, including Strange Brigade, Cyberpunk 2077, F1 2021, Total War: Warhammer 3, DOTA 2, Borderlands 3, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, were played at high settings and in 1080p to support this claim.

The Ryzen 9 7945HX3D might be the fastest CPU in a laptop if it follows in the footsteps of its desktop sister. It will be left to reviewers to compare AMD CPUs to Intel CPUs as AMD didn’t share any comparisons.

There is currently no intention for that chip to appear anywhere other than the ROG Strix Scar 17, according to the exclusivity agreement between Asus and AMD. Despite the fact that it goes on sale on August 22, no pricing or distribution areas had been disclosed as of the time of publication.
