Recently spotted over Bilibili and Chiphell, (via@9950pro), are two new leaks that offer up some specs and launch timeframe to the upcoming AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor which sports an eight-core configuration with V-Cache in an X-Class package. While we should take these leaks with a grain of salt, the new CPU is rumored to hold frequencies up to 5.
More About the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
It is rumored that the Ryzen 9000X3D series comprises three models: a 16-core model as Ryzen 9 9950X3D, a 12-core version as Ryzen 9-9900SX1, and the eight-core Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The new CPU is being targeted as a great option for gamers—boasting high single-thread performance and enough cores to handle most gaming situations at an attractive price point.
The Bilibili leak claims that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D will by default sustain a frequency of around 4.7 GHz and can go up to as high as5.2GHz across all cores, under heavy loads like in Cinebench R24 benchmark testing circumstances. This is also not clear if this was an engineering sample or final product OC and we have no idea what type of cooling solution they used so 5.2 GHZ might be on the optimistic side in terms of numbers.
An AMD employee indicated that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D could debut sometime between November 1 and 5, 2024 according to a post on Chiphell. Given that November 1 is a Friday, pre-orders are expected to begin then, but AMD typically starts actual sales mid-week, suggesting November 5 is more likely. It’s also possible that shipments of the Ryzen 9000X3D processors to partners could start in early November, pushing the actual launch window later.
While it’s clear that AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series with 3D V-Cache is on the way, the company has yet to officially announce specifications or a launch date, so these leaks should be treated with caution. AMD previously released its Ryzen 7000X3D processors between March and April 2023, approximately six months after introducing the Zen 4-based Ryzen 7000 series in October 2022.
At that time, competition with Intel was fierce, and AMD’s new AM5 platform had yet to prove a significant advantage over the AM4 platform using Zen 3 CPUs. The current landscape differs somewhat, as Zen 5-based Ryzen 9000 processors show only modest gains over their predecessors in gaming performance.
Consequently, AMD may be more inclined to launch the Ryzen 9000X3D models sooner rather than later to meet gamer demands. However, until official announcements are made, this remains speculative.
