AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor could be more expensive than we anticipated, at least if early pricing in product listings for the chip in Europe is correct. VideoCardz scoured online retailers, discovering prices in various European countries ranging from slightly higher than the recommended price to significantly higher than the MSRP.
Concerning the MSRP, we know that the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D – an 8-core CPU with on-board 3D V-Cache – will cost $449 in the United States. Given that, German tech site ComputerBase has calculated an expected price in Europe by comparing the MSRPs of the 7950X3D and 7900X3D in Euros to the recommended price in the United States.
Both the AMD Ryzen 7950X3D and 7900X3D are priced 13% higher in Germany than in the United States. As a result, we can expect the 7800X3D to cost €509 (13% more than US$449) in Germany.
The catch is that European retailers have early listings up with prices significantly higher than that. To be fair, VideoCardz cites a Slovenian retailer who has the processor priced at €530 – not much more than Computerbase’s prediction.
However, the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D has been spotted at a German retailer for €607, which is quite a bit more. Pricing of around €800 or more is mentioned elsewhere on VideoCardz, but these are almost certainly early placeholder prices. That may be true for the mentioned German price tag as well – we must proceed with caution in all of this.
How this relates to the US recommended price is partly determined by supply and demand. If there is a scarcity of stock and gamers are eager to get their hands on the 7800X3D, retailers will raise prices to reflect this. Then comes the usual cycle of scalpers getting in on the action, buying chips to resell and price gouging, and it all becomes rather unpleasant.
