The upcoming 8-core laptop monster shows massive gains over both the older Ryzen 7 3780U and Intel’s yet-to-be-released Tiger Lake U lineup.
Again the tipster @TUM_APISAK has found a leaked 3DMark Time Spy benchmark listing for the Ryzen 7 4800U. This new top-of-the-line Renoir APU manages to score 1045 points on the GPU test and a remarkable 6061 points on the CPU test.
This puts this 16-thread Renoir SoC’s performance twice as high as what the Ryzen 7 3780U managed, and nearly 40% faster than leaked Time Spy CPU scores for an upcoming Intel Tiger Lake U SoC even though operating at 15W TDP.
It’s impressive to see the APU perform exceptionally well and give better results than Intel’s upcoming CPUs and over 50% improvement over last-gen, thanks to the revolutionary Zen 2 architecture based on 7nm process.
Also, it’s been speculated that these new Ryzen 4000 mobile processors will be more power-efficient than the Intel ones, the Ryzen 7 4800U would potentially offer double the battery life of competing Intel parts. The benchmarks also prove that they will be faster as well than the Intel ones which make the situation even worse for the blue team.
The Renoir APUs have better IPC gains over Zen+ based Picasso APUs resulting better overall performance with lower TDP, thanks to the 7nm process.
The Ryzen 7 4800U’s additional physical cores play a key role in better performance at a frugal 15W TDP. Even though, Intel Tiger Lake U chips will likely to deliver better single-core performance, with days when more leak surface we can have a broader outlook between AMD and Intel mobile processors in 2020.
