AMD’s new, limited-edition Ryzen 5 5600X3D processor will be sold only at Micro Centre locations for $229 while supplies last. AMD and Micro Centre have agreed to make the retailer the sole provider of Ryzen 5 5600X3D CPUs for the length of their availability.

The six-core 12-thread Ryzen 5 5600X3D features 96MB of total L3 cache, courtesy of AMD’s game-enhancing 3D V-Cache tech, and drops into AM4 platforms that support DDR4 memory, providing a lower-cost pathway to a powerful budget gaming system that will trade blows with the best CPUs for gaming, possibly even taking the title of best mid-range gaming chip. The Ryzen 5 5600X3D completes AMD’s lineup of gaming-specific X3D processors, which currently ranges from $229 to $669.

The Core i5-13400 processors from Intel now dominate the mid-range gaming market, but the Ryzen 5 5600X3D will be priced similarly while potentially providing quicker gaming performance.

It might even compete with even more expensive processors, such as AMD’s own $540 Ryzen 9 7950X, and may be the most bang-for-buck chip in recent memory.

Micro Centre will also sell a $329 package that includes the six-core 12-thread Ryzen 5 56003XD processor, an ASUS B550-Plus TUF motherboard, and 16GB of G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 memory. For $849, the shop will provide a pre-built PowerSpec G516 system equipped with a Radeon 6650XT, 16GB of memory, and a 500GB NVMe SSD.

Beginning July 7, Micro Centre will only sell the Ryzen 5 5600X3D processors in its stores while supplies last. The quantity of CPUs available has not been verified by AMD or Micro Centre, however Micro Centre hopes to have supply for a few months. Micro Centre currently has 25 locations across 18 states, but plans to expand to 28 locations.
