AMD Set to Unveil Four Navi 48 and Navi 44 GPU Models in RDNA 4 ‘Radeon RX 8000’ Series

AMD RDNA 4 “Radeon RX 8000” series is about to launch. It will feature at least four GPU models based on Navi 44 & Navi 48. Apparently, AMD is more interested in catering to mainstream users than it is in making high-end and enthusiast GPUs, according to recent reports. This demonstrates a significant change in strategy for the Reds and harks back to their old way pens with Polaris, as well as RDNA1 families. With the RX 7000 series failing to make a dent in market share, AMD has pivoted back towards mainstream consumers — who happen to be most of it.

More About the AMD RDNA 4 ‘Radeon RX 8000’ Series

The RDNA 4 series will essentially be broken down into two main chipsets from AMD: the Navi 48 and the Navi 44. Both will use the 20 Gbps version of GDDR6 memory. Although specific details about the four SKUs have yet to emerge, Benchlife claims that each version will feature slight variances in specifications and settings. Navi 48 would be the more powerful of these two chips, so it might show up in one variant of this card while Navi 44 could offer a smaller solution.

AMD’s AIB partners have already begun testing early samples of the Navi 48 and apparently also Navi 44 RDNA4 chips in their labs. Launched of these products is expected in Q1 2025 with the product officially being introduced at CES 2025. The timeline seems to imply that AMD is getting ready for a pretty serious fight once the GPU wars heat up over this next year.

AMD will face competition from several fronts. Intel’s Arc Battlemage GPUs are going after the same mid- and high-end consumers, with NVIDIA getting ready to launch its Blackwell “RTX 50” series. NVIDIA also simply cannot afford to wait until the end of January as it pushes RTX 50 series mid-range solutions; the company would need to either move up that launch date or tweak prices on current offerings in order. It is a ploy that makes perfect sense right now, as NVIDIA has to fight on several fronts consumer-wise – Intel and AMD are both launching next-gen offerings which will also target mainstream customers together with high-performance.
