AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX review: The new flagship GPU from the Red team that deserves its praise

AMD has issued an official statement in response to consumer feedback on Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards. In a summary, the chipmaker advises affected customers to contact customer service.

Although the Radeon RX 7900 XTX is a great graphics card, MBA (Made By AMD) variants appear to overheat. The reference design has hotspots that reached 110 degrees Celsius; customer feedback alleges that the RDNA 3 graphics card exhibits similar behaviour even when the cooling fans are running at full speed.

“We are aware that a limited number of users are experiencing unexpected thermal throttling on AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards (reference models made by AMD). Users experiencing unexpected thermal throttling of an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX should contact AMD Support,” stated AMD.

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX’s usual junction temperature is 110 degrees Celsius, according to AMD.

The current theory is that unequal contact pressure from the cool plate is causing the overheating issue on reference Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards. According to certain user accounts, repasting or switching the TIM for a thermal pad is a potential remedy. Nonetheless, AMD’s team is investigating the problem, and PowerColor has begun collecting customer comments to aid in the research.

AMD has not specified a precise date for when we can anticipate guidance on the issue. Meanwhile, concerned users are encouraged to contact the chipmaker’s support team. Many customers, according to reports, have returned their Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards to AMD or the merchant.
