Moore’s Law is Dead has published the newest details of AMD’s mid-range Navi 33 GPU based on the RDNA 3 architecture that will power the Radeon RX 7700 XT graphics card in his latest video.

Both monolithic and multi-chipset GPUs will be available in AMD’s RDNA 3 GPU portfolio. The Navi 33 GPU is a mid-range processor that is based on the newer RDNA 3 architecture and is an optimization of the Navi 21 GPU. It’s built on a 6nm monolithic design and should be between 360 and 460mm2 in size.

When compared to the Navi 21 GPU, which powers the high-end Radeon RX 6000 range and has a die size of 520mm2, this represents an 11 to 30% reduction in die area. The Navi 33 GPU will include the following features:

  • TSMC 6nm process node (Monolithic GPU design)
  • RDNA 3 graphics core (Increased clocks/efficiency)
  • 8 GB GDDR6 Memory Optimized Across a 128-bit bus
  • Faster GDDR6 Memory Speeds
  • Rasterization Performance Equal or Greater Than RX 6900 XT
  • Ray tracing Performance Greater Than RX 6900 XT

Within the RDNA 3 family, the AMD Navi 33 GPU will kick off the monolithic section. A single die will be used for the GPU. The device is extremely similar to the flagship Navi 21 GPU, and manufacture is planned to take place on a 6nm production node.

Specifications of Radeon RX 7700 XT RDNA 3 GPU

The Navi 33 GCD is intended to include two Shader Engines, each with two Shader Arrays (2 per SE / total of four). Previously, each Shader Array was planned to be made up of 5 WGPs (10 per SE / 20 total), each of which has 8 SIMD32 units with 32 ALUs (40 SIMD32 per SA / 80 per SE / 160 total). These SIMD32 units add up to 5120 cores, which is the same as the RX 6900 XT’s core count.

The RDNA 3 Navi 33 GPU, however, will have a total of 16 WGPs or 4096 cores, according to the latest numbers. We don’t know if this is due to an upgrade to the chip’s configuration or if the new Radeon RX 7000 cards will use a cut-down version of the Navi 33 processors with one WGP disabled in each Shader Array. Many of the structures in RDNA 3 are larger, smaller, or wholly different from those in RDNA 3, implying that the architecture is a whole new design rather than an RDNA 2 upgrade.

Navi 33 is effectively a Navi 23 replacement based on the GFX11 architecture, and we know that Navi 23 only has 2048 cores, half of what Navi 33 is said to have. Because the Navi 23 GPU was used on the Radeon RX 6600 series cards, it’s safe to assume that Navi 33 will power AMD’s RX 7600 series lineup, unless AMD decides to move their lineup up a tier, with Navi 31 powering the RX 7900 series, Navi 32 powering the RX 7800 series, and Navi 33 powering the RX 7700 series.
