With their newest Radeon RX 7000 “RDNA 3” processors, AMD will significantly improve laptop GPU performance. Both leakers, Greymon55 and Kopite7kimi, claimed in two separate tweets that the next-generation AMD Radeon RX 7000 “RDNA 3” laptop GPUs will significantly improve gaming performance on mobile platforms. The first tweet comes from Greymon55, who claims that the Radeon RX 7000 “RDNA 3” Laptop GPUs (represented by the laptop emoji) will perform on par with AMD’s fastest RDNA 2 graphics card, the Radeon RX 6950 XT.
The Radeon RX 7900M, which may or may not be the flagship RDNA 3 GPU given that the business will utilise the X950 XT branding for its top RDNA 3 desktop graphics card, is suggested in the second tweet from Kopite7kimi. Regardless, it is enormous that the Radeon RX 7900M is reportedly capable of giving performance on par with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090. There isn’t a single laptop GPU available right now that can compete with the top-tier desktop graphics cards.
The Radeon RX 6850M XT, powered by RDNA 2, is AMD’s fastest laptop GPU at the moment, however it is only on par with the Radeon RX 6700 XT (Desktop).
The RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070 are comparable to NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop SKU. Both laptop CPUs are therefore very different from their desktop equivalents, but the next GPUs will step things up and deliver flagship-level performance.
Since the AD102 GPU is too power-hungry for the laptop market, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 series mobility GPUs will include the RTX 4090, which is based on the AD103 architecture, as the flagship model. The Navi 32 die (MCM) is anticipated to be used for the laptop market by AMD, who will follow suit.
It will nevertheless be impressive to see next-generation laptop GPUs match the last-gen flagships while consuming only a small portion of the power, even though they won’t have the same performance as the fastest desktop cards based on the newer architecture.
According to sources, the flagship Navi 31 GPU will be on sale first, followed by the Navi 32 and Navi 33 GPUs in the AMD Radeon RX 7000 “RDNA 3” GPU portfolio based on the Nav 3x GPUs.
