MSI launches the new Delta 15 and Alpha 15/17 AMD Advantage gaming laptops

AMD is pushing both of its CPUs and GPUs these days, making exclusive features that will boost performance for gaming laptops and one of them being AMD SmartShift technology. This helps only when you have an AMD Ryzen processor paired with a Radeon GPU, allowing dynamically to give the CPU or GPU excess power for better performance as per the scenario.

The recently launched MSI Delta 15 sports both the new Ryzen 5000H processors and Radeon RX 6000M graphics, so can easily implement SmartShift. This helps a lot when it is a graphic intensive application and it will benefit by providing more power to the GPU.

So, Zhihu does offer a first look at the Radeon RX 6700M laptop GPU on an MSI Delta 15 laptop, which is based on a cut-down Navi 22 GPU featuring 2304 Stream Processors. Much like the desktop counterparts, AMD has not been shy to give a chunk of GDDR6 memory, this one sporting 10GB across a 160-bit bus.

In a 3DMark Time Spy synthetic benchmark, we see a score of  9282 points with a newer Adrenalin 21.7.2 driver.

While in a direct comparison against the new Razer Blade 14 with AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX and RTX 3070, we see the MSI Delta 15 with the same Ryzen 9 5900HX and Radeon RX 6700M beating in almost every game by small margins. The Radeon GPU offers 109.1% performance of the RTX 3070 Laptop GPU at Max-Q settings (or 80W).

The GPU power peaks at 115W and as we see AMD’s Smartshift technology plays a key role in dynamically allocating power to the CPU or GPU, according to the application. So, fairly the Radeon RX 6700M at 110W TGP appears to be 9.1% faster than GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU at 80W.

Obviously, these are some early tests that seems promising for AMD as a Radeon RX 6700M powered laptop will be cheaper than an RTX 3070 GPU powered laptop.

You can’t compare a 115W 6700M GPU to a 80W 3070. Power limits make a huge difference when it comes to the performance of mobile GPUs. The fairer comparison would be, comparing 115W 6700M to 120W RTX 3070, such as the one in Legion 5 Pro.
