AMD Radeon 780M iGPU on Pheonix APU appears in new benchmark

The RDNA 3 architecture found in the AMD Radeon 780M iGPU has been demonstrated to be able to run a number of games, including Cyberpunk 2077, at 1080p 60 FPS. The 2023 ASUS TUF A15, which has a Ryzen 9 7940HS chip, is one of the AMD Phoenix Laptops with Ryzen 7040 APUs that will be available very soon, according to ETA Prime. The APU has the Zen 4 core architecture, but its new AMD Radeon 780M iGPU, powered by the RDNA 3 architecture, should significantly improve graphics performance.

The most advanced member of the Ryzen 7040 CPU family for laptops, which will be available later this quarter, is the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS. The Radeon 780M integrated RDNA 3 GPU has 12 Compute Units that can operate at up to 2800 MHz, 8 cores, 16 threads, a base clock of 4.0 GHz, a boost clock of 5.2 GHz, and 40 MB of total cache.

The AMD Radeon 780M iGPU has already been subjected to synthetic benchmarks; now it’s time to concentrate on gaming benchmarks.

When running a stress test like Furmark on the laptop’s 32 GB of DDR5-5200 memory, which was tuned to operate at DDR5-5600, it was discovered that the GPU on the chip was consuming about 45W of power. Gaming workloads should balance power between the CPU and GPU because the GPU is under stress.

The GPU scored 2830 points in 3DMark Time Spy compared to the CPU’s 11,453 points, which is what is expected of the chip given its 45W power limit and lack of overclocking. Once more, the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS and its AMD Radeon 780M iGPU can easily achieve a score of over 3K points in 3DMark’s Time Spy graphics test with a little bit of tuning.

CSGO is running at 1080p High with over 100 FPS and reaching 150+. Forza Horizon 5 at 1080p High settings produces over 60 FPS and can reach close to 100 FPS while GTA V at 1080p and very high settings averages around 60 to 70 FPS through the dense city blocks. Doom Eternal produces a very playable 70+ FPS at 1080p Medium, while Fortnite runs at or above 70 FPS.

Through the use of a third-party APU tuning tool, ETA Prime of Cyberpunk 2077 was able to get the AMD Radeon 780M iGPU RDNA 3 to operate at its previously intended 3 GHz clock speeds. Without using FSR, the integrated GPU was able to play the game at 1080p with a mix of low and medium settings at well over 60 frames per second. However, using FSR, we can anticipate even greater visual and performance improvements.
