The Red Team has finally unveiled its new CPUs today and among others, the Athlon 3000G APU is a major launch that can get neglected. Well, this new APU can be a deal breaker in the entry level CPU lineup and can give competition to the recently launched Intel Pentium CPUs.
AMD’s new Athlon 3000G comes out from the Picasso APU stack, and can be a great budget alternative to the Ryzen 3 3200G and Ryzen 5 3400G APUs. This dual core APU is based on Zen+ architecture which is built from 12nm process.
This can be a good budget option from the existing Athlon 200GE, and the Athlon 3000G comes with SMT support like its predecessor. It packs in 1MB of L2 and 4MB of L3 cache, and it has the same 35W TDP, also features the same AM4 socket motherboard support.
Processor | Cores / Threads | Base / Boost (GHz) | L1 Cache (MB) | L3 Cache (MB) | GPU | GPU Cores | GPU Clock (MHz) | TDP (W) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Athlon 3000G | 2 / 4 | 3.5 / 3.5 | 1 | 4 | Radeon Vega 3 | 3 | 1,100 | 35 |
Athlon 200GE | 2 / 4 | 3.2 / 3.2 | 1 | 4 | Radeon Vega 3 | 3 | 1,000 | 35 |
AMD has increased the base clock frequency base to 3.5 GHz but has no boost frequency and also the GPU clock speed has been increased by 100 MHz, taking the Vega 3 graphics frequency to 1,100 MHz.
The unique feature of the new Athlon 3000G is that, AMD has unlocked the CPU this time, so gamers and enthusiasts can take the maximum benefit of this CPU by overclocking it, provided that you have atleast a B series AMD motherboard.
As per the performance figures stated by AMD, the new APU performs well at the budget of $45. Targeted for the entry level audiences and gamers, AMD’s main motto is to provide smooth 720p gaming experience even with the iGPU. Even overclocking the APU upto 3.7-3.9 GHz can give you impressive performance.
At this budget, the games that are playable consists mostly of eSports-class games, like Fortnite and Rocket League. AMD’s benchmarks shows how powerful this entry level APU is, and without any doubt, these APUs easily beats Intel’s $73 Pentium G5400 in gaming.
Overall, for all those who wanted a new and efficient budget CPU option that too with good iGPU will obviously look for the AMD Athlon 3000G which is again a bang-on-budget product at just $49. This APU will step into the market on November 19th.
