While many gamers are anticipating the RDNA 3 Radeon RX 7000 series, AMD is still working on RDNA 2 and is planning new Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards for the desktop market.

The latest speculation comes from Greymon55, who said in a tweet that AMD will release the Radeon RX 6X50XT series in June-July 2022. There have been numerous speculations that an RDNA 2 refresh is in the works for mid-2022, and it appears that we may be looking at a revelation during Computex 2022 and a launch soon after. According to the naming scheme, the new Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards will use the same 6*50 numbering scheme as the RX 6000M refresh cards and will only be available in ‘XT’ varieties.

AMD Radeon RX 6000 XT RDNA 2 Graphics Card Refresh

The AMD Navi 21 and Navi 22 GPUs will be updated for the Radeon RX 6X50XT series. On the desktop platform, the AMD Navi 21 GPU drives the Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT, and RX 6800, while the Navi 22 GPU powers the RX 6700 XT. If AMD follows the same GPU naming pattern as their mobile portfolio, their successors will be called the Radeon RX 6950 XT, RX 6850 XT, and RX 6750 XT when they arrive in Q2 2022.

According to the earlier speculation, these cards would also include 18 Gbps GDDR6 memory dies. Currently, all cards include 16 Gbps memory dies, except the future RX 6500 XT and the top RX 6900 XT LC. Although the increase to 18 Gbps may provide more bandwidth and improve performance by 2-5 percent, it does not show a significant difference with the updated series. AMD does not appear to be considering the Navi 23 GPUs for the upgrade because they are more mainstream and were just released, as opposed to the higher-end models, which have been available for over a year.

It would have been useful if AMD had given its existing desktop GPUs the 6nm treatment and gotten greater performance efficiency out of them, but that isn’t going to happen. However, there have been various reports of a 6nm range launching later this year. This soft refresh appears to be a very quiet update that will only be available through AIB cards.

There would also be a tiny price difference, and the TGP numbers are projected to increase significantly as faster memory chips are added. These GPUs will almost certainly compete with Intel’s upcoming high-end ARC Alchemist GPUs.

AMD Radeon RX 6500 Non-XT RDNA 2 Graphics Card

According to the leaker, AMD is developing a new graphics card for its Radeon RX 6000 series that will be based on the 6nm Navi 24 GPU core. This graphics card will purportedly be known as the Radeon RX 6500 (Non-XT) and will be the Radeon RX 6400’s DIY counterpart.

The RX 6500 is expected to cost around $130 US, making it at least $70 US less expensive than the RX 6500 XT. However, we’ll have to see if the clocks are configured similarly to the RX 6400, as there is a 500 MHz difference between the 6500 XT and the 6400, which is primarily due to the lack of an external power connector (53W TGP). The card would have 768 cores, 4 GB GDDR6 memory, and 16 MB of Infinity Cache on a 64-bit bus interface.
