AMD has officially integrated its Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) technology into the latest driver release, titled “Adrenalin Edition 24.1.1.” Launched initially in September, AFMF employs frame generation to significantly enhance FPS in a broad array of games through a simple one-click process. In contrast to FSR 3, which necessitates collaboration with game developers, AFMF seamlessly integrates frame generation technology through the driver side.

Although FSR 3 may outshine AFMF in terms of quality, the latter enables users to enjoy heightened FPS across numerous games relying on the DX12 and DX11 APIs. While in its technical preview phase since its initial launch, AFMF has now transitioned into the official driver release, promising a more refined and accessible user experience.

The Adrenalin Edition 24.1.1 driver extends support to all three RDNA generations of GPUs – the 7000, 6000, and 5000 series. However, it’s important to note that AFMF technology is exclusively compatible with the Radeon RX 7000 (RDNA 3), Radeon 700M (RDNA 3), and Radeon RX 6000 (RDNA 2) GPUs. The inclusion of support for the Radeon 700M iGPUs is particularly noteworthy, catering to handheld devices based on AMD’s latest Ryzen 7040/8040 APUs, enhancing their integrated GPU capabilities.

The driver update not only introduces AFMF but also brings Video Upscaling using Fluid Motion Frames, presenting a formidable competitor to NVIDIA’s Video Super Resolution. Supported in applications like VLC and YouTube, this technology aims to enhance video playback image quality for AMD Radeon RX 7000 desktop series GPUs.

Key Highlights of the Adrenalin Edition 24.1.1 Driver:

  • New Game Support: Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, TEKKEN 8
  • New Product Support: AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT
  • AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF): Boost FPS by up to 97% for DirectX 11 and 12 games
  • AFMF improves performance on AMD Radeon 700M, RX 6000, and RX 7000 series GPUs for both notebook and desktop platforms.
  • Up to 97% average increase in performance at 1080p resolution with AFMF ON and upscaled with FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (FSR 2).
  • Up to 103% average increase in performance at 1440p resolution with AFMF ON and upscaled with FSR 2.
  • AFMF preserves image quality by dynamically disabling frame generation during fast visual motion.

The driver update also includes additional video improvements, such as Content Adaptive Machine Learning (CAML) text detection supporting up to 4K gaming, and optimizations for various encoding support within AMD Software, including AVC, HEVC, and AV1 codecs.

Furthermore, AMD has introduced the Smart Technology Tab and Assistant, streamlining access to A+A features and enabling automatic adjustment of AMD Software features for enhanced performance or battery life, respectively. The expanded support for hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling to Radeon RX 7600 series GPUs on Windows 11 version 22H2 and newer is another notable feature of this comprehensive driver release. Users are encouraged to update their AMD Software for the latest features and improvements.
