AMD Epic Genoa line-up specs leaked: up to 96 cores & PCIe Gen 5.0 support

AMD’s upcoming EPYC Genoa server CPU line-up will feature the new Zen 4 core architecture. Recent sources indicate that some juicy details about the line-up have been leaked out by ExecutableFix.

First of all, the EPYC Genoa would be compatible with the new SP5 platform which brings a new socket. The EPYC Genoa processors would also feature support for new memory and new capabilities. The socket is the biggest socket AMD has ever designed and will support AMD’s EPYC Genoa and future generations of EPYC chips. The Genoa CPUs will pack 96 cores and 192 threads.

According to sources, the AMD EPYC Genoa CPUs are expected to offer up to 29% IPC uplift over Milan CPUs and a 40% overall improvement thanks to other key technologies.

Other features of the CPU include the fact that the AMD’s EPYC Genoa CPUs will feature 128 PCIe Gen 5.0 lanes, 160 for a 2P (dual-socket) configuration. The SP5 platform will support DDR5-5200 memory which is pretty awesome and an insane upgrade over the DDR4.

Sources also confirm that the chip will also support up to 12 DDR5 memory channels and 2 DIMMs per channel which will allow up to 3 TB of system memory using 128 GB modules.

AMD’s EPYC Genoa lineup specifications seem to suggest that the CPU is a great improvement over its predecessors and the only competitor for the chips would be Intel’s Sapphire Rapids Xeon family which is expected to launch in 2022 with PCIe Gen 5 and DDR5 memory support.
