AMD becomes the biggest customer for TSMC’s 7nm chips

According to the information revealed by the Chinese media site MyDrivers, AMD has now become TSMC’s largest customer for 7nm wafers. Previously, the TSMCs biggest incumbent was Apple, which has now given up the title because of its plans with 5nm silicon.

We already know that Apple has already reserved 80% of TSMC’s 5nm production. Sources state that AMD has increased its 7nm orders by 80% for this year compared to last year. we can affirm that AMD’s upcoming Zen 3 products, including the new Xbox/PlayStation consoles, will be the main consumers for the 7nm process nodes.

According to the information collected, AMD’s mainstream Zen 3 family will incorporate the mobile Cezanne CPUs, the Ryzen 5000 Vermeer desktop processors, and the recently launched EPYC Milan server chips.

We already know, that AMD is suffering from the shortage of Ryzen 5000 chips and while Team Red will want to tackle supply issues for desktop parts, it will also want to make sure that orders for EPYC Milan are filled as quickly as possible.

AMD has done extremely well in the Server CPU market and its share has increased against Intel while desktop and laptop processor share has dipped. So, AMD wants to capitalize on this momentum by ensuring there are enough EPYC Milan chips to go around.
