Amazon to Limit Device Logins for Prime Members in India Starting January 2025

The company’s official statement reads, “As part of your Prime membership, you and your household are entitled to enjoy Prime Video on up to five devices. Starting January 2025, we are updating our usage terms in India to include up to two TVs as part of your five devices entitlement. You can manage your devices on your Settings page or buy another Prime membership to watch Prime Video on more devices.”

For now, 10 phones, tablets, laptops, and TVs can sign in to Amazon Prime Video for each member. But the new policy will cut that limit to five devices. Amazon is also giving existing Prime members a 30-day grace period to delete and replace up to two devices on the account. This gives subscribers the opportunity to deregister or replace two devices during this time.

It is a potential blow to ₹1,499-a-year subscribers of Amazon Prime, which includes not only Prime Video but also free deliveries, Amazon Music, and other services. The measure is part of Amazon’s effort to crack down on password sharing, similar to a recent action by Netflix — and similar limitations helped boost that company’s subscriptions, the company itself said.

In India, Amazon Prime subscriptions cost ₹299 monthly, ₹599 every three months, and ₹1,499 for a year. There are also the ₹799 Annual Prime Lite plan and the ₹399 Prime Shopping Edition. For context, when the policy goes live in January 2025, Prime Video perks will cover ad-free streaming on five devices, including support for two TVs.
