Digital content providers have seen their increasing demand in the current pandemic. With Alexa starting its support for the Hindi language last year, Amazon has now begun to update the list of supported languages for Alexa on Fire TV. The official report states that the company is offering support for hundreds of skills. It includes the ability to play music, control smart home devices, get news and weather reports, set alarms and timers, and even search for information on the web.
The change will enable users to issue voice commands, like “Alexa, Bangalore ka Mausam batao (What’s the weather like in Bangalore)” or ask questions, like “Alexa, Bharat ka Pradhan Mantri Kaun hai? (who’s the Prime minister of India?)”.
For users to switch to Hindi, the Fire TV owners need to navigate the Fire TV language settings. Then by clicking on Settings > Device Options > Device Language. New Fire TV customers can select Hindi during the setup of their device right out-of-the-box. Sources also confirm that Amazon has rolled out Hindi support to the Alexa app on Android and iOS earlier this week.
Amazon has also launched the Alexa Routines to its Fire TV devices in India. The feature is called ‘Entertainment Alexa Routines’ and will help users include Fire TV commands with their Alexa Routines. The company stated about the news feature, “taking a bunch of things you can do with Alexa and your smart home, and bundling them together seamlessly.”
Now users will set up Alexa Routines and automatically pause their TV and turn up room lights when somebody says: ‘Alexa, I’m getting a snack.’ The company further stated, “You can also create a Routine so that when someone says ‘Alexa, I’m back,’ Alexa can say ‘OK — now back to your show’ turn off your smart lights, and resume playing content.”
