Manchester United announced the signing of Atalanta’s Amad Diallo during the summer transfer window. However, the player was announced to be joining Manchester United in 2021, after he received his passport to travel and play in England.
Fabrizio Romano recently announced on Twitter that Diallo had received his passport and that he would move to Manchester United soon. United will be paying a sum of €25 million upfront and will be paying €15 million in bonuses afterwards.
Diallo came through the ranks at the Atalanta academy and in the 19/20 season, featured regularly for Atalanta’s youth team in the Primavera 1, the Italian youth league. He also featured in the UEFA Youth League for the club.
In 27 appearances across all competitions last season, Diallo scored 8 goals and assisted 11. This season, he has barely featured for the first team since his move to the Old Trafford was announced.
The 18-year-old operates primarily as a right-winger and is left-footed. Manchester United were in the market for a player who can help Mason Greenwood out on the right-hand side before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer changed formations.
Should United revert back to their 4-2-3-1 formation under Solskjaer in the future, Diallo will surely be one to help out on the right-hand side. Though the club have Daniel James to help out on the wings as well, the Welshman has been unable to cement a place in the starting XI.
It could be argued that United need experience in attack to truly get their form up and running, but should Diallo manage to find his feet in England soon, the investment could be an absolute steal considering the value of players in the modern transfer window.
