Atletico Madrid have agreed a new contract with Alvaro Morata which will see him extend his stay until 2027. The striker’s current deal runs out next summer, which means he would have been available as a free agent. But, he has now committed his future to the Rojiblancos after discussions with Diego Simeone about his role in the squad.Â
There was interest from several Italian clubs such as Inter, Roma and Milan. Saudi Arabian clubs like Al Shabab and Al Ettifaq were also keeping tabs on his situation. But, he has turned the other clubs down to continue with Atletico.Â
Alvaro Morata to stay at Atletico Madrid until 2027Â
The striker had a remarkable 22/23 season, where he scored 15 goals and provided three assists in 45 appearances across all competitions. His contributions played a significant part in Atletico Madrid reaching a third placed finish in La Liga, even though they had a disastrous start to the season.
Morata has been criticised for his lack of clinical finishing, but he has been able to put up appreciable numbers in spite of that. Moreover, he has also been consistently called up to the Spain national team where he has also delivered.
Even when the forward is unable to score, his work rate is an effective compensation. And with a demanding manager like Diego Simeone, his presence will help them challenge for the top four, and potentially the league title once again.
