Erling Haaland has been in a league of his own this season, and he reminded the world of his brilliance with five goals against RB Leipzig to knock them out of the Champions League.
The Norwegian now leads the race for the Champions League top scorer award with 10 goals to his name. Half of those came in a span of 57 minutes, during which the Bundesliga side were completely picked apart.

With a total of eleven goals scored against RB Leipzig, they are now Haaland’s most scored against opposition. Moreover, Erling Haaland has become only the third player to score five goals in a Champions League knockout game.
The only two players that have also done this are Lionel Messi in Barcelona’s 7-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen in 2012, and Luiz Adriano vs BATE Borisov in 2014. However, Messi is the only one of them to have scored all five from open play.
Haaland had the chance to break this record and score a double hat-trick in the game. But, Pep Guardiola brought him off with half an hour remaining to give some time to Julian Alvarez. And thus, Adriano and Messi’s record remained intact.
However, the former RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund striker has become the fastest and youngest player to reach 30 Champions League goals. And with the way he is scoring, he might just surpass Cristiano Ronaldo as its top scorer by the time he is done.
