All iPhone 17 Series to Get 120Hz LTPO Displays

According to a recent report, Apple plans to launch high refresh rate displays on each mannequin of the iPhone 17 series. So far, the feature has been limited to the Pro models since 2021 (and many premium phones still only have 60Hz displays). The news jibes with a previous rumor claiming that the iPhone 17 lineup will get LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) displays, likely coming from partners Samsung and LG.

iPhone 17 Series Expected to Feature LTPO Displays and 120Hz Refresh Rate Across All Models

Citing industry sources, ET News now says the iPhone 17 models due in 2024 will also come with LTPO screens, possibly enabling a 120Hz refresh rate. The iPhone 17 series will almost certainly consist of the vanilla iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new “Slim” replacement of the Plus model. All of these models are expected to sport LTPO displays.

Apple has used LTPO OLED tech only on its Pro and Pro Max models in previous years—the same as it yet still would use in the iPhone 16 series because LTPO compared to LTPS basically allows for more efficacious power utilization. The South Korean company, Samsung Display and LG Display are expected to provide OLED panels for all iPhone 17 series models including the iPhone 17, Slim, Pro, and Pro Max. The report also hints that the iPhone 17 series could feature a 24MP front camera, a step up from the 12MP sensor found on the iPhone 16 series.

The phones might use TSMC’s 3nm process, as the 2nm chip may not be ready for mass production until late 2025. Additionally, the iPhone 17 Slim is rumored to have a 6.6-inch display and a single rear camera, powered by the A19 chipset. These details are based on speculations, and Apple will officially announce the iPhone 17 series at launch.
