Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool is now official, after an official confirmation from the Reds. The Argentine has been on Liverpool’s radar for months, and now, they have completed a deal to sign him from Brighton on the back of a very impressive season with the Seagulls.
The £35 million release clause has been triggered in his contract, which is much less than the £60 million that was rumoured for him beforehand. Mac Allister will wear the number 10 jersey at the club which previously belonged to Sadio Mane. He has signed a five-year contract with Liverpool until 2028.
The Argentine was in the World Cup winning squad which competed at Qatar, and he played a very important part in their success. With Liverpool needing to rebuild their midfield after a disappointing season, Mac Allister will be a great addition to the team to add a new dimension to their style of play.
It has seemingly been a one-horse race for the player, with the Reds closing the transfer fairly early in the transfer window. Things moved really fast over the last few days, with the player’s father travelling to the UK to finalise the details.
Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool now official
Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that the player would be leaving the club in the summer. Moises Caicedo is also set to leave Brighton soon with Chelsea interested in signing him. However, they weren’t able to reach an agreement with the Seagulls in the past.
The Blues were in the race to sign Manuel Ugarte from Sporting. But the Uruguayan is now set to join PSG, after Chelsea decided that they did not want to spend too much on the transfer.
Caicedo has been on the list of several clubs since the January transfer window. However, Brighton wanted the midfielder to stay at the club until the summer so that they could replace him prior to the start of the new season. Arsenal and Chelsea both remain linked to the player but have not put in a formal offer to sign him just yet.
A similar condition applied to Alexis Mac Allister, who has always been respectful with Brighton. And now, he has earned a move to one of the top clubs in England, and will be competing at a higher level than his former club could offer him.
After Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool, we can expect confirmation about Mahmoud Dahoud’s free transfer from Borussia Dortmund. James Milner is also expected to join the club as a free agent from Liverpool. Both deals will be announced soon, once they have been signed and sealed.
Brighton have signed Joao Pedro as their record signing of the summer to bolster their attack. It now remains to be seen whether they will sign more players to cope with the pressure of the Europa League. Liverpool on the other hand could sign another defensive midfielder to rotate alongside Fabinho.
