Napoli have reached an agreement with their number 1 goalkeeper, Alex Meret, to extend his contract until 2024. The player’s current deal runs out next year, and he will be staying for one more season, unless another renewal takes place.
The 25-year-old has started all seven games for the team this season, and has kept three clean sheets. Having conceded only five goals this season, the Italian has the second best numbers for goals conceded in Serie A.
Alex Meret to renew contract until 2024
The Udinese academy graduate moved to Napoli permanently in 2019, after spending one season on loan. He has now established himself as the clear first-choice goalkeeper at the club, and is putting in an impressive string of performances this season.
PSG’s Keylor Navas and Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga were both in talks with Napoli over a potential transfer. And this would have resulted in Alex Meret potentially becoming the second-choice goalkeeper at the club. However, both deals fell through and the Italian has been asked to step up.
He has taken the chance very well, and his new contract will also have the option to be extended until 2025. It is now only a matter of time before the player and the club announce their decision to continue together.
