Germany have confirmed Aleksandar Pavlovic has withdrawn from their Euro 2024 squad, owing to a case of tonsillitis. The Bayern Munich midfielder was called up to the senior team after an impressive first season, and has now been replaced with Borussia Dortmund captain Emre Can.
The youngster had to miss the friendlies against France and the Netherlands in March due to tonsillitis as well. And now, a renewed case of the disease has forced him out of the Euros too.

“We want another No.6 in the squad and have therefore decided to nominate Emre Can. He immediately expressed his enthusiasm and willingness to join the team,” Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann said in a statement.
“We wanted to have another player in the squad who has played a lot of games and who knows how to deal with the pressure. He can well fulfill the profile that we need now.”
Emre Can had an impressive season with Dortmund, leading them to the Champions League final against Real Madrid, albeit falling short at Wembley. The 30-year-old is not only a great passer of the ball, but is also solid defensively, which will provide their dynamic attackers the freedom to commit while going ahead.
It’ll be interesting to see how Julian Nagelsmann lines up his national team in the Euros after an impressive last few games, where things finally seemed to click for the 2014 World Cup winners.
