James Rodriguez has agreed to the proposal laid down by Qatari club Al Rayyan and the Colombian is set to join them on a three-year deal until 2024. With the move, he will be exiting European football after only one season with Everton.
Interestingly, PSG are still scouting the player and he could be given a chance in France if he performs well in Qatar. However, he will be announced as a new player for Al Rayyan very soon. Only the final paperwork remain to be completed between the two parties before the move is official.
The 30-year-old made the move to Merseyside from Real Madrid on a free transfer. He was recruited under Carlo Ancelotti and had a good start to life in the Premier League. However, injuries hindered his progress and prevented him from reaching the form he initially showed under the Italian manager.
Ancelotti left Everton to return to Real Madrid at the end of the season, and Rafa Benitez took over the club. After the pre-season itself, Benitez decided that Rodriguez was not to be a part of his plans. Everton blocked moves from Besiktas and Porto in the summer, but have now agreed to let the player travel to Qatar to negotiate his transfer.
The talks between the two parties have gone quite well, and an agreement has been achieved on the player’s salary as well. He has not played for a minute this season and will have his first share of minutes in the new campaign in Qatar.
