Manchester United winger Antony has quickly become a fan-favourite at his new club. The Brazilian has brought a new level of aggression, skill, pace and a goalscoring threat to the right side that didn’t exist previously.

And it has now been revealed that the player was offered a hefty bonus by Ajax in order to stay at the club for one more season. The report comes from Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, who states that the Eredivisie champions tried everything in their power to keep him at the club.

Antony was offered millions to stay at Ajax for one more season

🚨🚨🎙️| Mike Verweij on Antony turning down ‘really decent money’ to sign for #mufc: “Antony was given a bonus that if he stayed for one more season, he would receive several million. That was a really decent amount. I heard €2-2 1/2 million.” [@Sport_Witness]

But in spite of Ajax’s efforts to keep the youngster at the club, they were ultimately forced to sanction a €100 million transfer for him.

Antony later did an interview where he revealed he had communicated his desire to join Manchester United and leave Ajax well beforehand. But, the club refused to grant him his wishes. And ultimately, he was forced to miss training in order to make the transfer happen.

His reunion with Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford has gone very well, and he has already scored three goals in six Premier League games. With more experience in England, he could become a very important player of the squad.
