After defeating RKC Waalwijk 5-0 on Sunday, Erik ten Hag’s Ajax set an unprecedented milestone. Sebastian Haller, who was in fine form, scored the game’s first goal in the 17th minute, as the club scored five goals under Hag after only 185 games.
The Ajax manager has been extensively linked with a move to Manchester United, but it has been said that he does not want to leave his team at the present since it would disrupt his season plans.
About Erik ten Hag
Erik ten Hag is a former player and manager in the Dutch professional football league. He is presently the manager of Ajax, a club that has won two Eredivisie titles and reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2019.
Ten Hag has played for FC Twente, De Graafschap, RKC Waalwijk, and FC Utrecht as a centre-back. He spent three seasons at Twente, where he won the KNVB Cup in 2000–01.
In the 1990–91 season, Ten Hag won the Eerste Divisie with De Graafschap, ten years before Twente won the cup. After the end of the 2001–02 Eredivisie season, he retired from active playing at the age of 32 while playing for Twente.
Reaching the Milestone
Erik ten Hag’s record as Ajax manager:
- 185 games
- 135 wins (73% win rate)
- 25 draws
- 25 defeats
- 4 trophies
- 504 goals (2.7 per game)
- 157 conceded (0.85 per game)
And he’s only lost one UCL game against a team.
United, on the other hand, will appoint an interim manager until the end of the season before appointing a permanent manager, with Brendan Rodgers, Zinedine Zidane, and Mauricio Pochettino thought to be among the candidates.
More about His Achievements
Following United’s humbling 4-1 Premier League thrashing at Watford on Saturday, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked on Sunday (November 21). Ten Hag has emerged as one of the leading candidates to replace him.
Ten Hag has made an impression throughout his time at Ajax, winning two Eredivisie titles and leading the club to the 2018-19 Champions League semi-finals. This season, Ten Hag’s team has been the talk of Europe, dazzling their way into the Champions League round of 16 while also winning the Eredivisie on goal difference over rivals PSV. After Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing of RKC Waalwijk, the 51-year-old Dutchman was quizzed about United’s apparent interest.
