Ajax are set to sign Branco van den Boomen on a free transfer, after his departure was officially announced by the club. The Toulouse player was voted the Ligue 1 midfielder of the year, and will be moving on to Netherlands at the end of his contract.

The French side were prepared for him to leave, and have signed 22-year-old Cesar Gelabert as his replacement. They will have to spend a significant amount in the transfer window to reinforce their squad ahead of the new season.

Last season, Branco van den Boomen put up sensational numbers, scoring 13 goals and providing 21 assists in 37 games. This year in the top flight, he has scored five and assisted eight in 34 games across all competitions.

As a result, Ajax have gotten their hands on a very talented midfielder that is hitting his peak in terms of performances on the pitch. With their philosophy of playing free-flowing football, van den Boomen could prosper in the Eredivisie.
