Jio introduced “JioAirFiber” earlier this year, a residential Internet alternative that bypasses connecting a cable to your house and instead makes use of the carrier’s 5G network. Competition for the existing service will come from Airtel’s upcoming “Airtel Xstream AirFiber 5G” service.

Xstream AirFiber details and features

The Android app was accidentally posted to the Play Store too early, which gave out a lot of information about the new service even though it hasn’t yet been properly disclosed.

According to the Airtel Xstream AirFiber 5G app, users must pick a good spot in their home with a strong signal for the service, which suggests that Wi-Fi 6 routers would be the center of the services (source).

The app could include some augmented reality capabilities to aid you in selecting the appropriate place. The router will work on both a 4G and a 5G network, but 5G offers quicker speeds, greater capacity, and lower latency. The router will include a few Ethernet connectors on the back for syncing consoles, smart TVs, and desktop computers.

The cost of the service was also made public by the software. The 5G router is priced at Rs. 6,094 and costs Rs. 2,294 for a 6-month subscription with 100 Mbps speed (presumably excluding GST). However, when the product is formally introduced, there may be a variety of promotions and bundle deals.
