Apple is preparing to release the AirTags 2 in the autumn of next year. Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that mass production of the second-generation AirTag would begin in the fourth quarter of 2024. Kuo believes Apple intends to use AirTags outside of the Find My app, and that they will be more closely connected with the company’s future Vision Pro headset as part of a spatial computing ecosystem. However, no specifics about the item tracker’s extra features have been revealed.

The current AirTag, which will be available in April 2021, costs $29. According to Kuo, the devices have quietly gained traction, with shipments expected to reach 20 million units in 2021 and 35 million units in 2022.

While AirTags are intended to track wallets, bags, and purses, they have attracted some criticism in the past for potential unwanted tracking. As a result, Apple has incorporated precautions such as notification alerts and created a cooperation with Google to combat stalking.
