Air India: Flying is one of the biggest annoyances because of how passengers have to open up the flight mode due to legal requirements that can never navigate mobile data. Passengers will instead be able to stay connected to the internet throughout the flight, courtesy of Air India‘s newly launched in-flight Wi-Fi service that allows them to do so without being grounded or in aeroplane mode. This innovation was made possible because the Indian government opened up in-flight Wi-Fi services, to be launched from January 1st, 2025.

Air India Launches In-Flight Wi-Fi Service on Domestic and International Flights Starting January 2025
With the recently amended Flight and Maritime Connectivity (Amendment) Rules, 2024, the Indian government has now made Wi-Fi available in aircraft reaching an altitude of 3,000 meters. The service will work on mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and other mobiles. It currently operates on select domestic flights on Airbus A350, select Airbus A321 Neo, and Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Air India further said that the service would be gradually rolled out to more aircraft in the fleet in the coming days.
The Wi-Fi service is currently free and is expected to become a paid service eventually. Passengers can also pair multiple devices with the Wi-Fi, but the service will not be activated until the plane is in the air and above 10,000 feet. Air India has also successfully tested a pilot program for in-flight Wi-Fi on international routes on its planes operating on routes to New York, London, Singapore, and Paris.
